Our community got together for a 5K run to raise awareness about plastic pollution and support environmental action. People of all ages came to back Oasis Change's mission. With over 70 participants showing up for our first event, there was a lot of energy, showing what we can achieve.
While no funds were raised this time, we gained more valuable assets like the connections we made, the awareness spread, and the powerful message sent: that our community cares about the planet.
Good morning, everyone!
First off, thank you all so much for being here today. My name is Aradhya Kapoor, and I'm the founder of Oasis Change, the group behind today's 5K for Plastic Pollution.
Let me start by saying this clearly and from the heart: you being here matters.
You could have done 100's of other things that deserve more priority. Or maybe you could have slept in a little. Or maybe you could have watched your favourite show.
But instead you made a different choice.
You chose to show up. You chose to run, to walk, to volunteer, to support a cause that affects every single one of us whether we realize it or not.
That choice says something powerful about who you are. It shows that you're not just someone who watches from the sidelines. You're someone who gets involved. Someone who sees a problem and steps up. Someone who believes in doing something rather than nothing.
It tells me that you care not just about your own health or your own weekend but about the health of our world. About the kind of planet we're leaving behind for our kids, our communities, and generations to come.
And that right there already makes you part of something so much bigger than a single race.
You're part of a rising wave. A growing movement. A community of people who are waking up to the reality that we can't wait for change โ we have to be the ones to create it.
Hope that we can clean our parks.
Hope that we can protect our oceans.
Hope that we can shift habits, rewrite narratives, and inspire others to do the same.
Hope that one piece of trash picked up today becomes a thousand tomorrow.
Hope that a child helping clean up today grows up to be a leader who changes everything.
Hope that companies begin to choose sustainability over convenience.
Hope that communities begin to prioritize green spaces, clean air, and safe water.
Hope that our everyday choices โ what we buy, what we throw away, what we reuse โ start to matter more than convenience.
Hope that we replace apathy with awareness.
Hope that we replace ignorance with education.
Hope that we replace pollution with purpose.
Hope that future generations will look back and say, "They cared. They acted. They made it better."
Hope that what we do today plants the seeds for a future that's cleaner, greener, and more united than ever before.
Because hope isn't just wishful thinking โ it's what fuels movements. And every single one of you here today? You are hope in motion.
Every step you take today echoes far beyond this race. It says: I care. I showed up. I believe change is possible.
So don't underestimate the impact of your presence.
You're not just helping pick up trash. You're helping pick up hope.
You're part of the solution. And that means everything.
Let me tell you a little about why we're here today, and why we started this organization.
We created Oasis Change with one clear mission: to fight plastic pollution and protect the environment for future generations. That's not just a nice slogan to us โ it's a responsibility.
The reality is this: plastic is everywhere. From the packaging of our food to the bottles we drink from to the bags we carry โ it's become a part of daily life. But what we don't always see is what happens after we throw it away. Over 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every single year. That's the same as a garbage truck full of plastic being dumped into the ocean every minute. Let that sink in.
Our hope is that this event isn't a one time thing. We want it to be the beginning of a lifelong journey for all of us.
Whether it's reusing your water bottle, saying no to plastic bags, picking up litter when you see it, or talking to your friends about what you learned today โ every small action creates a ripple. And when we ripple together, we create waves. Waves of change.
Because here's the truth:
Every voice matters.
Every piece of trash picked up matters.
Every single step you take matters.
So again, thank you for showing up. Thank you for choosing action. Thank you for helping us build a cleaner, greener, and more hopeful future โ not just for us, but for the next generation.
Let's make today meaningful. Let's run strong. Let's take pride in the fact that we're not just talking about change โ we're out here making it happen.
Let's do this for each other.
Let's do this for the planet.
Let's do this together.
Thank you.
